  • What are your maps made from?

Our maps are crafted from multiple layers of hardwood plywood that are precision cut and hand assembled to represent elevation, water, and landscape features. Each piece is stained, painted, and sealed by hand.

  • Are your maps original designs?

Yes. Every map begins as an original digital design created in our North Carolina studio. Each piece is carefully prepared for layered construction and finished by hand.

  • How many layers are in your maps?

Most lake maps feature 5–6 layers, while topographic pieces may contain 8–12 layers depending on the terrain and design complexity.

  • Do you offer custom maps?

Yes. Custom maps are one of our specialties. We can create maps of lakes, rivers, mountain regions, and meaningful places such as family homes, wedding locations, or vacation destinations.

  • What sizes do your maps come in?

Most maps are available in 15" × 20" or 23" × 30", though larger custom pieces can also be created.

  • How long do custom orders take?

Custom pieces typically require 4–6 weeks depending on design complexity and production schedule.

  • Do you ship your artwork?

Yes. We carefully package and ship artwork throughout the United States. Shipping costs vary depending on the size of the piece.

  • Can maps be hung on the wall?

Yes. All wall pieces come ready to hang.

  • Are your pieces suitable for outdoor use?

Most pieces are designed for indoor display. Some signs made from solid wood can be suitable for covered outdoor areas.

  • Where are your products made?

All Oak & Ash Creations artwork is designed and produced in North Carolina.

  • Do you sell at festivals and markets?

Yes. We regularly exhibit at regional art festivals, craft shows, and music events throughout the Southeast.

  • Why do you create maps?

Our work celebrates the deep connection between people and place. Many of our customers choose maps that represent meaningful locations such as family homes, favorite lakes, or mountain landscapes that hold special memories.

  • Can I request a map that isn’t currently available?

Yes. If you don’t see the location you’re looking for, contact us. We are happy to discuss creating a custom design.

  • Can you create a map of a place that is special to me?

Yes. Many of our pieces are custom designs created for locations that hold personal meaning—favorite lakes, rivers, mountain landscapes, hometowns, or family properties. If you have a place in mind, contact us and we’ll be happy to discuss creating a custom map.

  • Why are your maps layered?

Each layer represents changes in elevation and terrain. By stacking multiple layers of wood, we create depth that reflects the natural landscape and gives each piece a sculptural, dimensional quality.

That question is something people ask constantly when they pick up your maps, and answering it on the website helps people understand the craftsmanship before they even meet you.

  • How long does it take to create a map?

Each piece requires many hours of design, cutting, finishing, and assembly. From preparing the map data to staining, painting, and hand-assembling each layer, every artwork is carefully crafted to highlight the depth and character of the landscape.

  • Are your maps carved from one piece of wood?

No. Our maps are built from multiple individually cut layers of wood that are carefully assembled to create depth and represent elevation, water, and landscape features.
